What can be said about a custom paver driveway besides what a unique and beautiful surface. The same rules and specs apply the same as they would for a paver patio or walkway regarding materials, patters and paver restraint. The only difference is that the base must be deeper to be able to handle vehicular traffic. Surfaces that will support vehicular traffic must have a deeper base to distribute the weight out more evenly, without the extra base your pavers will begin to dip and sag in the locations where the tires continually go. So instead of our normal 8” of compacted road base we apply 12” and we compact in 2” lifts just as we would for a normal patio or walkway.
